Connect-Type Activity on Reduction of Carbon Footprint

  • Next, revisit Lower Your Carbon Footprint to re-evaluate what an individual can do to lower their carbon footprint. It also relays the message that these actions multiplied throughout the population can see a huge difference in the release of carbon into our atmosphere.

  • After reviewing the presentation, write a story on your personal energy use and ways you learned to reduce it. Include as many aspects as possible to show your reduction or plan of reduction.

Needs Assessment
  • What do you know?
Global climate change is being documented. The change is blamed on the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Humans can lower carbon emissions one individual at a time.
  • What do you want to know?
How individual students plan on contributing to the reduction of carbon in the environment.
  • What are you trying to measure, determine, or define?
If the learner can take the material and connect it to their personal lives. If each individual has a responsibility to the environment, the learner should acknowledge the learned material and know ideas on implementing energy-saving techniques into a real world application.
  • How will you collect and record information.
The stories should contain relevant ideas and vocabulary as learned through the presentations. Each story should contain a before and after comparison of energy use and habits to show the connection from previous knowledge of the subject to current application of real-world strategies.
  • How will you report the information you collect?
The stories will be graded by personal relevance, vocabulary, and use of given tactics from the presentations.

  • Are all interested groups included in planning and conducting the needs assessment?
The team of 10th grade educators have been included in the preparation of this needs assessment. All questions and concerns have been properly addressed and noted. Complete agreement has been reached among the team.
